Curriculum Philosophy

Science That Sustains affirms that scientific inquiry is a way of knowing, restoring, and redesigning the world. This course empowers Grade 11–12 learners—especially those navigating displacement or educational disruption—to investigate natural systems, model change, and propose sustainable solutions. Through trauma-informed pacing, multilingual scaffolds, and project-based learning, students build fluency
in environmental literacy, data reasoning, and ethical reflection.

What’s Distinct About This Course?

  • Strand-Integrated Design:

Aligns with GlobalCore Appendices C (Science), E (Global Competencies), F (Creative & Expressive Arts), and H (Mindful Practice)

  • Accelerated Pacing:

10-unit structure designed for full credit completion within a 10–12 month diploma pathway

  • Multilingual & Inclusive:

Vocabulary banks, translation spaces, and flexible artifact formats (oral, visual, written)

  • Restorative Pedagogy:

Emphasizes storytelling, reflection, and ethical communication

  • Portfolio-Based
    Assessment:

Each unit culminates in a learner-created artifact that demonstrates mastery across strands
